Lindet, Jean-Baptiste-Robert
(1746-1825)
   political figure
Born in Bernay, Jean-Baptiste-Robert Lindet was the district attorney for his area (1790) and, during the revolution of 1789, was elected to the Legislative Assembly, then the Convention. He took his place first with the deputies for the Plain, then joined the Mountain (montagnards). He composed the list of charges against King louis XVI (citizen L. Capet) for his trial and, in April 1793, joined the Committee of Public Safety, to which he was reelected in July of the same year and was in charge of rationing. Under the Thermidorian Convention, he tried to defend the Committee of Public Safety and its members, and was implicated in the Montagnard uprising of 1 Prairial Year III (May 20, 1795). Lindet benefited from the amnesty of the Year IV and, in 1799, served as minister of finance.
